The Cambridge-Stratford Study Skills Course for High School
30 Hour edition (9-11th grades) by Dr. Mary Elizabeth Paterra

Reinforcing "good" study habits to continue from middle school and introducing advanced strategies for effective high school performance are the key ingredients of the 30 Hour edition. It uses a 9.2 readability to engage students in using practice exercises common to high school cognition. Students discover new ways of handling regular class assignments with greater speed and understanding. Success is a built-in ingredient in each chapter as examples move from easy to more difficult. A pre and post test survey is available that documents the gains of students as they master the techniques presented. STUDENT WORKBOOK

The STUDENT WORKBOOK has been prepared to help reinforce the lessons being taught. It includes practice examples that students complete to give meaning and relevance to the skills presented. Ample space is provided on each page for notetaking to allow each student to create a personally meaningful reference for on-going review in the days, months, or years following instruction. Journal entry pages conclude the end of each chapter and allow for written student reflections on the relevance of each skill to their everyday class and homework assignments.

TEACHER MANUAL

The TEACHER MANUAL provides a clear, step-by-step instructional format that emphasizes learning-by-doing by students over direct lecture by teachers. Each lesson is developed in a "scripted" format to reduce preparation time. Interaction with students using questions, a Transparency and Listening Tape Set, and practice examples in the Student Workbook allow teachers to maintain an active student-centered learning atmosphere that emphasizes self-discovery and the trial and error of learning using an active "hands-on" format. Each lesson includes 10-15 pages of instruction, requires no special training, and can usually be organized into 1-2 hours per class.
